-0.4- Progress Report 70%

Unlike my diary approach for most of the dev-logs of 0.4 so far.

This will be a more detailed report going over the progress of every aspect of 0.4's current state for my Backers & Followers. 


Let's get right down to business.


Writing

The scripts of 0.4 are very close to being finished.

They just need a bit more work to tie them all up, then they should be done.


But what happens in the episode, all of it's events have been outlined.


Art

I would say a lot of the scene blockouts have been done, and implemented into the game itself.

Though some scenes are still in the process of being blocked out.


On top of that, I've added some new ones to episode 1.

As looking back, I do feel that episode suffers the most from a lack of rendered events.


With the new scenes, this update will be featuring new backgrounds as well.

As mentioned in a previous dev-log, the variety of rendered scenes in this update is intended to be a lot more than the usual.


I'd like to also mention something about the credits screen that plays at the end of each update.

When you reach the current end of a heroine's update in 0.4, it should play out a unique animation depending on who's route you're currently playing.

As you watch the credits scroll.


I know that's not a big deal, but it's something neat that I thought I would share with you.

(I've done Sachie's, now I just need to include Sanae's...)


Programming

As for this update's programming work.


It's a lot more straight forward than the last update (0.3).

As I'm not trying to figure out how the routes' system will work, and what flags need to be remembered.


I've got the formula down now.

That said, there are some new things I'm doing for this update programming wise.


One of them, is a conversation event.

Where you're chatting with the heroine, and provided with many different dialogue choices.


Compared to the usual where you pick one choice, and the game continues.

This one loops back to the choices, until a certain condition is fulfilled.


Nothing too extravagant, but just thought I'd share that with you.


Goals (Release Window?)

The current goal of 0.4, is to do what 0.3 did, but better.

Take what I've learned from working on 0.3, and create something better.

As for when I hope to release this new update?

The current release goal is to release this October, which has now become this month.

And on top of trying to release the update this month, I'd like to release something else...

But it's too soon to talk on that.

Hopefully I'll be on time for Halloween, as I'd like to do something for this holiday. 🎃

Conclusion

I'm going to be very busy this month, probably pulling all-nighters to get this update done (RIP my sleep schedule).

I'd say it's getting close to completion, for me to confidently claim that it should be done by this month.

But man...that remaining 30% is going to be one hell of a push.
