Black Rose: Episode One's - Postmortem


The Launch-Postmortem


I plan to talk about the project's future in this dev-log.

But first, I'd like to speak about the launch of Black Rose...


It has now been just over a week since the launch of Black Rose's first episode.

And it's safe to say that it has been a resounding success!


Over 1,400 downloads & Over 120 new followers gained!


As well as new members joining the game's Discord & Patreon.


Honestly my expectations for the launch have been exceeded.


And I would like to thank my friends Worgen & Sean Sean for their support.

As well as all my new followers, patrons, Itch.io (for providing this platform and making the game visible), and those who've shared the project with others, for their generosity.

So thank you.


Project's Future-Postmortem


Now about the game's future...


While a lot of people say they've enjoyed the first episode.

They've also brought to light shared criticisms.


One of them being the lack of CGs in the presentation.

The truth of the matter is I had to pick & choose carefully where to have custom-made CGs, because of my current PC's limitations (old hardware).

That makes producing CG scenes very taxing, and time-consuming.

There were parts I wished to have their own CGs, that I may return to add in the future.


As for the other criticisms.

As the game is in development, it will constantly evolve over time.


Looking at it now, I like to think of Episode 1 as the rough draft of the game it will become.

With everyone's feedback helping to shape that game, with improvements and refinements.



Next Build (0.2) Release Window?



Now when will the next release (0.2) be?


I'm aiming for this month, February.


I'm refining the draft of the script, and putting the 2nd Episode together in the game.

As well as creating the necessary assets of the new build.


I believe this build will be one of the most important ones, and the deciding factor on the game's direction going forward.

So I want to perfect this as best as I can for you all to enjoy.


Again, about the release...

Whilst aiming for a February release, delays are always possible.


However, if you want to get the next release (0.2) earlier.

Where depending on the chosen tier, will affect when you get to play the newest build of Black Rose.
